Franz Kafka’s short story ‘The Burrow’ describes the tingle in your stomach that comes with the feeling of the unknown – both scary and fascinating at the same time. Inspired by his story, this piece by choreographer Raimonda Gudavičiūtė examines our fears and asks: how do we confront them when we do not feel secure and would ideally like to hide?
Driven by his fear, the badger-like creature in Kafka’s story wanders further and further into a labyrinth. In ‘BAU!’, Gudavičiūtė transposes this moment into games of hide-and-seek, castle-building and parkour. Her mobile dance work uses flexible elements to alter a variable space that she creates together with the dancers, her team and the young audience.
With every brick the familiar environment morphs into a playful space for movement and encounters. In terms of style, the choreography includes classical, breakdancing and hip-hop elements as well as contemporary dance.
