Following the success of the productions ‘Timeless’ by Xie Xin and ‘I’m afraid to forget your smile’ by Imre and Marne van Opstal, in ‘Broken Bob’ the Hessian State Ballet brings the dance positions of these pioneering contemporary choreographers together for the first time in a double bill.

In ‘Broken Sense of Beauty’, the Chinese choreographer Xie Xin explores a personal tragedy. Powerful and sublime, with her individual, flowing movement language, Xie weaves rice paper, gunpowder and six bodies together into a landscape of memory and loss. In a manner that is both emotive and thrilling, she demonstrates how people only discover their strengths through certain experiences in life.

In their new creation ‘I Am Bob’, the Dutch siblings Imre und Marne van Opstal create a choreographic fabric of identity from a tight blend of music and text. In exploring the question of who Bob is, he comes to represent human nature itself. The dancers explore his character through the power and pattern of their movements, as the choreographic duo challenge the limits and possibilities of the body and the spirit through dance.
