In an immaculate white space we are welcomed by the silhouettes of three bodies. Their steps appear slow and predatory. Their glances seem direct, profound and uncertain. Their voices are not genuinely their own. Words rotate and collapse, losing direction and meaning.
The piece WELCOME by the choreographer and dancer Joachim Maudet is a journey during which the voice is detached from the body and enters into a new and different dialogue with it.
The three performers play with the discrepancy between what is seen and heard. What is usually experienced as a single entity, is now separate: voices without bodies, smiles without mouths, tears without eyes.
Through the magic of ventriloquism the voices of the three performers move from one body to another, creating hybrid creatures with multiple narratives. At the same time they also produce unattributable moments out of the discrepancy between what has been said and what has been experienced, a miraculous absurdity that can both amuse and amaze the audience.
