Tanzfestival Rhein-Main is offering two two-week residencies to artists who work with various dance styles and practices in the fields of street and club dance. These include, for example, breaking, locking, popping, krump, waacking, house dance, and voguing.

Solo artists or teams of up to two people from Frankfurt and the Rhine-Main region who wish to explore their choreographic practice within the context of the theater space are eligible to apply. It is important to us that the residency projects reflect on the history and the cultural and social contexts of street and club styles in which they originated.

The residencies will take place from Monday, October 26, through Sunday, November 8, 2026. Rehearsal Stage 2 (100 m²) or Studio 2 (64 m² / 8x8 m) will be reserved for the residencies for 14 days. Both studios are equipped with a sprung floor suitable for dance. At the conclusion of the residencies, a public showing will take place as part of the Tanzfestival Rhein-Main 2026. The “Artists in Residency” showings are scheduled for Sunday, November 8, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in Studio 1 of the Künstler*innenhaus.

The residency program provides a stipend of 1,800 euros per person for the two-week residency, including a showing. Production, press, dramaturgical, and technical support, as well as networking opportunities, will be provided by the team at Künstler*innenhaus Mousonturm for the duration of the residency.

Application:

Please send your application, including a residency proposal (max. 1 A4 page or a 5-minute video), brief bios of the participants, and—if applicable—an accessibility plan and access needs, by October 4 (11:59 p.m.) to Jacq Azarmi: jacq.azarmi@mousonturm.de. We will get back to you by October 9.
We are looking forward to receiving your applications!

Synopsis

Tanzfestival Rhein-Main not only presents pieces by internationally renowned choreographers, but it also encourages new talented choreographers and new works. For the 2026 Tanzfestival two Frankfurt artists or collectives whose roots lie in street and club styles have pursued new research into movement and developed sketches for new pieces in two-week residences at the Mousonturm. The artists share the current state of their research in a showing and welcome feedback.

ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE is funded within the frame of Mehrjahresförderung "Tanzentwicklung am Künstler*innenhaus Mousonturm" by the Cultural Office of the City of Frankfurt am Main.
