AFTER ALL
Solène Weinachter
Synopsis
After All is a show about death – and about life. In this solo work the French-Scottish dancer and choreographer Solène Weinachter combines dance, theatre, storytelling and comedy in a sensitive and surprisingly light-hearted examination of what happens in the end. How do we deal with loss? Which rituals can help us – and which ones do we lack in an age that often reacts to death by not speaking about it? With a clear eye, subtle irony and great physical presence, Weinachter explores a range of funeral cultures: traditional and forgotten ones – and some that still need to be invented. The piece is based on extensive research and conversations with people who deal with death and farewells on a professional basis – from death companions and coffin weavers to interreligious discussion groups. After All creates a space that invites us to reflect more openly on our own mortality. A touching, intelligent and humorous evening about something that happens to us all – eventually. And about what matters before then: bonding, community and vitality.
Dealing with death, dying, and the experience of loss.
