Wurzel-Baum
Célestine Hennerman / JUST Wiesbaden/ Hessisches Staatsballett
Synopsis
Where do I come from – and who am I actually? Are my ancestors part of me, even if I’ve never met them? What does a family mean?
The ensemble explores these questions with curiosity, light-heartedness and a gym wheel. They travel in time between the past and the future, between the turn of the century, the 50s and the 70s, following the relics, memories and heirlooms that families leave behind – and create a complex, layered image of identity, heritage and belonging.
Using their physical presence, dance and acting skills, the ensemble delves into past eras of dance – the Charleston, rock’n’roll, the twist and swing – searching for connections in their own family trees through movement and meeting others.
Wurzel-Baum invites us to reflect on our own roots and about how closely the past and the future are entwined – tumbling through time with sensory appeal, movement and humour.
