Synopsis

The Frankfurt collective HOUSEaHOLICS has the mission of promoting house culture in Germany, raising its profile and furthering its development.

House emerged in the 1980s in the US cities of Detroit, New York and Chicago. Shaped by Black, Latinx and queer communities, house includes styles of both music and dance that are closely connected. The dance style is marked by flowing, continuous movements often based on fast beats. Over the years it has absorbed influences from other styles of dance and developed numerous variations.

With the project Beyond the Floor: House for Everyone the members of HOUSEaHOLICS celebrate the richness of house culture. They hold regular jams, including during Tanzfestival Rhein-Main, for people to come together and share their mutual passion for music, dance and the vibe – regardless of their age, dance experience, gender or knowledge of dance culture.

Supported as part of Next Steps, a program by Bureau Ritter to strengthen dance professionals in Hessen, funded by the Crespo Foundation.
