Inhalt
Where does a border lie? Between countries and people, belonging and exclusion, memory and the future? These questions are considered by Tanzfestival Rhein-Main’s Spotlight Artist for 2026, Lia Rodrigues, in her piece BORDA. This Portuguese word can mean border or threshold, but it can also mean seam or embroidery. It is used to refer to what separates things, but also to what can create connections. Together with nine dancers, Rodrigues devises a choreography about the ambiguity of these liminal spaces. Bodies, material and movements turn into fleeting landscapes in which intimacy and distance, community and alienation are constantly being reclassified.
For over three decades Lia Rodrigues has combined her artistic work with social engagement in the Centro de Artes da Maré in Rio de Janeiro. For her, dance is a tool for questioning the reality of society and for inventing new ways of living together. BORDA is a powerful work about what separates and connects us, about the imagination to cross borders and creating spaces for people to meet.
